Beautiful African American Artifacts in Storage

Posted:

Decatur- Back in October we told you about a historic Decatur museum that sat in the same spot for 18 years. Now it has a new home.

All of the artifacts from the African American Cultural and Genealogical Society of Illinois are in storage. This is because the building owner did not renew the lease.

The museum's director, Evelyn Hood, is determined get a new building, but she needs your help.

"I need exactly $65,000 which I do not have. We have received a little over $5,000. I have been going to different places, giving presentations and they do give me a donation, but since the weather's been so bad, we haven't been able to do fundraisers. But that's been on our mind," Said Hood.

She said, all donations can be sent to the museum's P.O. Box 25251 Decatur, IL 62525. A fund is also set up at the Land of Lincoln Credit Union.
