Bill banning smoking with children in car advances

Springfield - A bill to make it illegal for motorists to smoke in the car with a child has advanced in the Senate panel.

The measure was approved on Tuesday. The Senate Public Health Committee approved the bill by a 5-2 vote. The bill will now move to the full Senate.

Motorcycles and convertibles would be exempt. And police wouldn't be able to pull over drivers solely for committing the offense.

The bill is SB2659.
