Barrier for Asian carp breaks free

Posted:

Decatur - A screen used for keeping Asian carp at bay for Lake Decatur has been lost by the icy winter.

Heavy water flow and large pieces of ice cause the screen to dislodge late last month. Engineers haven't been able to retrieve the screen to find out what happened.

The screen is valued at about $120,000. It is unclear what will happen next, or if the city will have to pay for the repairs.

There is no immediate danger of carp entering the lake. But that could change as the Sangamon River rises in the spring.
