Lakefront development project looking to grant for new amphitheater
Decatur - The Nelson Park lakefront development project is in need of some major cash to pay for a new amphitheater.
The Decatur Park District is asking the Illinois Department of Natural Recourses for help in funding the development project. The park district hopes to secure a 2.5 million Park and Recreational Facility Construction grant to help pay for the new amphitheater.
The lakefront development project was approved in 2011, at that time the park district stated they would out source revenue to get the amphitheater project completed. They expect the project to cost $3 million to $3.5 million.
The park district hopes the facility would seat a large audience, possible thousands with grass seating areas.
