Charges filed for man who attacked a police officer
Springfield - A grand jury has indicted the man involved in an officer attack that happened back in February.
The Sangamon County State's Attorney announced that Antonio Florence,37, will be charged with 10 counts from the February 21, incident of an accused sexual assault and injuring of an officer.
A Springfield Police officer was attacked when he responded to a dropped 911 call at 1813 Gregory Court.
Police and the suspect struggled over a gun, both subjects ended up on the ground. During the altercation the officer suffered severe head and facial injuries resulting in the officer shooting the subject in the upper leg.
Police say, Florence entered the home in the 1800 block of Gregory Court and sexually assaulted the woman inside the home. The woman tired to call 911 but couldn't reach a dispatcher, resulting in the 911 hang up call.
Florence is charged with Home Invasion, Criminal Sexual Assault, Aggravated Battery and Attempting to Disarm a Peace Officer. He is being held on a one million dollar bond, he is set to appear in court on March 31st.
Springfield Police investigation the sexual assault case, while the Illinois State Police conducted an investigation into the officer involved shooting. As a result of the investigation the officer was justified in his actions.
