Two Men Arrested and Two People Shot in Decatur Shooting


Decatur- Decatur police said, two people were shot, two men are behind bars and four guns have been recovered in two shootings on Sunday.

Sunday morning around 11a.m., 18-year-old Tyheim Johnson was shot in the 1000 block of East Lincoln Street.

About two hours later, police went to 3726 North Moundford Avenue because of a car on fire and reports of shots fired. While at this location, an officer attempted to stop two suspects, but they fled the scene. Two men were arrested, Rafael Kennedy Jr. and Rajiv Rice at Front and Eldorado Street. Both have been charged with attempted murder.

Police say they noticed shattered glass that fell from the vehicle in the 1200 block of North 21st. When they returned to the area they found two handguns along the street.

Katari Smith was shot near the North Moundford location. Police arrived at the scene and found blood, but no victim. Smith said he heard gunshots and left the scene for his safety. He arrived at Decatur Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Lieutenant Walker said, it is believed both shootings are connected. Additional arrests are anticipated.
