Sexual abuse charges dropped against school hall monitor

Champaign - Prosecutors in Champaign County have dropped a sexual abuse charge that alleged a school district hall monitor groped a young girl.

The case against 27-year-old Herbert Howard was dismissed Friday, and a Unit 4 spokesperson says he remains on paid administrative leave. Herbert originally plead not guilty.

The Assistant State's Attorney says charges were dropped because they were concerned about the 13-year-old victim's ability to testify, and that it wasn't in her best interest to proceed.

The school district did conduct their own investigation into the situation.
