Trial set for man accused of almost hitting a police officer with a car
Decatur - A trial date has been set for a man accused of nearly hitting a police officer with a car.
Jamel Jelks, 20, was taken into custody, in December. According to a sworn statement, a Decatur Police officer approached the car Jelks was driving. He then sped off, almost hitting the officer. After fishtailing on the snow covered roads Jelks crashed into a utility pole.
K-9 Units later found a loaded gun, and 4grams of marijuana. Jelks plead not guilty on January 15th.
His trail is set to start on May 7th. He is still being held at the Macon County Jail on a half a million dollar bond.
