DECATUR -- The Macon County coroner says an elderly man died of smoke and soot inhalation in a fire in a home on Decatur's northeast side.

Coroner Michael Day says Edward Horve, 74, died at the scene.

Fire crews were called out just before 5:00 p.m. Thursday to the 1600 block of North 31st Street.

When the Decatur Battalion Chief got to the home, he says it was fully engulfed. Twenty-two firefighters responded to the scene. The fire was out in approximately 40 minutes.

No other injuries were reported, and a cause for the fire is yet to be determined.
