Lisa Taylor Named as New DPS District 61 Superintendent

Posted:

Decatur -The Board of Education for Decatur Public Schools District 61 voted to approve the contract of Lisa Taylor. She comes in after former superintendent Gloria Davis left for retirement.

Five out of seven board members voted for Taylor. Those who support her believe she is the right person to lead the District.

Taylor has been working for Decatur Public schools for 12 years. She held the title of central office administrator and deputy superintendent.

Now she comes into leading the district at a difficult time, with many cuts waiting to be voted on. She said, with the budget being several million dollars in the hole, it's something she is prepared for.

While many people are sure Taylor is capable of filling the shoes of retired superintendent Gloria Davis, two board members, Sherri Perkins and T.J. Jackson, Jr., voted against bringing in Taylor.

Sherri Perkins said, the search firm that was brought in to help in the process was not needed. At Tuesday night's meeting she said, it was a waste of tax payers money and she does not think Taylor is qualified for the job.

WAND's Dawn Sterling will have a one-on-one interview with Taylor on Wednesday during the five and six newscasts.
