Each spring the Illinois Department of Natural Resources stocks more than 60,000 rainbow trout in bodies of water where fishing is allowed. Right now, nearly 50 locations across the state are open for trout fishing.
This year includes four new locations: Pine Lake in University Park, Green Lake in the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Wolf Lake at the William Powers State Recreation Area in Chicago, and Lake Mendota in La Salle County.
Participants must purchase an Illinois fishing license and inland trout stamp. Licenses and a list of all stocked sites are available on the department's website.
