Pana's Kitchell Park Receives Grant

PANA - 46 parks in 21 Illinois counties, including Pana's 40 acre Kitchell Park, received $190,000 in grant money.

When matched with local funds, $390,000 in improvements will be created.

Governor Pat Quinn announced the grants Saturday at Memorial Park in LaGrange Park, Illinois.

The project is funded through the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development program. Pana's match came the Ruby June Munzenmaier Estate. Munzenmaier died in 2010 and left $151,340 to the city of Kitchell Park for improvements.

"This will be the largest revitalization of Kitchell Park since 1908," said Pana Mayor Steve Sipes.

"When the grant is finished we can simply say we have the best all around park in downstate Illinois."
