Ever wonder about the crime in your neighborhood? Searching for a home to purchase and a priority is safety? Don't worry, there's an app for that.
Crimemapping.com is an application for iPhones and a site dedicated to building safer communities. On the free site and app, community members can quickly pin point violence in a specific neighborhood.
Whether it's an arson, assault, burglary or any other criminal act, the information comes directly from an agency. Then a home owner or purchaser can see the activity going on in detail.
If you are looking to buy, don't rely on a broker to tell you if the neighborhood is safe or not.
"It's sort of a fair housing issue. We can't really give our opinion unless there was an obvious fact," Phillip Trautman of Champaign County Realty said.
So do your research and call your local police department or check recent crime on Crimemapping.com.
Some Central Illinois police departments are connected with Crimemapping.com. For instance, Champaign, Rantoul and Peoria police.
