Police make an arrest for March 9th fatal shooting


Hoopeston - Police say they have a suspect in custody, for a March 9th fatal shooting, at the Downtown Hotel in Hoopeston.

Carlos Suarez, 44, of Lafayette, Ind was arrested this week in Hoopeston, on weapons charges. Police believe he was also involved in the shooting death of 40-year-old Bruce L. Eldridge, at the Downtown Motel.

Police say, Bruce Eldridge, 40, was not the intended target of the shooting.

Hoopeston Police were called to The Downtown Motel, at 200 East Main Street for reports of shots fired. Police found Eldridge of Hoopeston, dead inside a room. A witness told police that they saw suspects flee the area on foot and then a vehicle.

Reports from Hoopeston Police say, that the shooing happened in an apartment near the room Eldridge was staying in. 

Suarzez's weapons charges are from an incident on February 16, on the city's north side.

Police are still investigating the fatal shooting of Eldridge, they didn't say whether or not more arrests will be made.

Suarez is currently being held in the Vermilion County Jail. His bond is set at $100,000.
