17 unions announce support for FutureGen, 620 jobs
JACKSONVILLE -- Sen. Dick Durbin joins local labor unions Monday to announce support for the FutureGen 2.0 project.
Durbin says the FutureGen Alliance and 17 local unions have an organized labor agreement for the FutureGen plant. It will retrofit in an old coal-fired power plant near Meredosia, to capture and store more than 90% of the plant's carbon dioxide emissions.
A recent University of Illinois study found that FutureGen will create an average of 620 well-paying jobs for the next 24 years, and bring $12 billion in overall economic benefits to Illinois.
