Grants Distributed to Illinois Park Districts

ILLINOIS - $16.5 million in grants are being given to 46 park districts across the state to build, expand, or upgrade their parks.  The money comes from the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Program, and park districts are required to at least match the state funds given, essentially doubling the state's investment in the parks.

The millions of dollars in grant money will be used to encourage more people to spend time outdoors, with the largest grants outside of Chicago given to Westside Park in Minier, Lincoln Park in Mount Vernon, and Lytle Park in Mattoon.  Those three parks will each receive $400,000.
