More Mumps Cases Reported in Sangamon County

SANGAMON COUNTY - The mumps outbreak continues to grow in Sangamon County. Three more case have been confirmed.
This brings this year's total to 15 cases. According to the Sangamon County Department of Public Health, 14 of the cases are in adults; one new case has been reported in a person under 18.
More than 40 cases of mumps have been reported this year in Illinois. 

According to a news release issued by the Sangamon County Department of Public Health, "mumps is a contagious disease that can cause swelling and tenderness of the salivary glands in the cheeks and jaw.  Mumps typically starts with a few days of fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and loss of appetite, and is followed by swelling of salivary glands."
