SPRINGFIELD - A conservation group will be paid $75,000 by a logging company for illegally harvesting timber from an Illinois nature preserve.

Authorities say 88 mature white oak trees were stolen from the Nature Conservancy's Tallmadge Sand Forest Land and Water Reserve by Poignant Logging.  The logging company was hired by an adjacent hunting club.

The company will pay $75,000 to the Nature Conservancy for the trees and site damage, and the Antlers and Wings Hunt Club will sell 69 acres to the conservancy to expand the reserve.

According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, another logger faces 16 felony charges for allegedly stealing timber from private landowners in Stephenson County.
