Competitor participates in Springfield Race For The Cure from Afghanistan
SPRINGFIELD - The Komen Springfield Race for the Cure is a charity 5K that raises money for breast cancer research, and this year, the event will have a unique competitor.
Air Force captain Lauren McQuone will run the 5K on a treadmill 7,000 miles away in Afghanistan.
McQuone paid the registration fee and received her race t-shirt in the mail. She says she often runs races in support of the breast cancer charity when she's back home in the U.S., so she chose several Komen races to run for remotely to continue to raise money.
McQuone is one of about 2,400 people who will participate on Friday.
