New Civil War exhibit to open in Presidential Museum
SPRINGFIELD - The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will open a new Civil War exhibit on May 23.
"Boys in Blue IV: In Memory of Heroes" will include information on anti-war riots in Charleston and Lincoln's assassination. Museum officials say the exhibit explains how the Grand Army of the Republic was created by Illinois soldiers to speak out on issues affecting veterans.
According to the museum, more than 142,000 people visited the previous three "Boys in Blue" exhibits, which focused on the experiences of Illinois soldiers during the Civil War. The exhibits are an effort to mark the 150th, anniversary of the war.
