Illinois GOP elects new party chairman

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Republican Party unanimously elected a new leader Saturday.

Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider was elected party chairman during a GOP state central committee vote.  Schneider is a small business owner from Bartlett, Illinois.  He has served on the county board since 2007, and is a former highway commissioner and Hanover Township trustee.

Schneider replaces Jack Dorgan, who will be joining Bruce Rauner's campaign for governor.  Schneider is set to serve a four-year term.
