Washington residents still recovering from devastating tornado 6 months ago
WASHINGTON - Residents of Washington, Illinois are reflecting on how far they've come, and how far they still have to go, after a November tornado tore through their community six months ago.
More than 1,000 homes were damaged or destroyed, and three people lost their lives due to injuries inflicted during the tornado. Six months later, homes are still being rebuilt, and debris is still being cleared.
The physical damage of the tornado is readily apparent, but less obvious is the lingering psychological damage inflicted. Kris Lancaster used to love watching storms, but now finds severe weather unnerving after he was injured when the tornado struck his home. Lancaster says he is reminded of the sound of last fall's tornado when trains travel near his home.
