Paint The Town Purple to be held in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD - An annual initiative that's designed to promote Relay for Life in June is around the corner.  Paint The Town Purple requires no fees or registration forms, and individuals can participate by hanging purple streamers on their buildings or by using purple lighting starting near the end of May.  Purple floodlights will mark state and municipal buildings along with some businesses.

The color purple represents every type of cancer, which is why it's the official color of the Relay for Life and is also used to designate cancer survivors.  The Relay for Life of Sangamon and Menard County will be held at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield on June 21-22 from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
