Decatur man sentenced to 100 years for teen's death
DECATUR - A Decatur man has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for the shooting death of a 17-year-old girl in 2011. Jurors convicted Dennis E. Davis, 40, in the shooting death of Mishyra Wheeler.
Davis was sentenced on Tuesday by Associate Macon County Judge Timothy Steadman. Davis' attorney requested a minimum 46-year sentence, while prosecutors sought 110 years. However, during sentencing Judge Steadman said that the crime was an example of the kind of random violence the court system cannot and will not tolerate.
Prosecutors accused Davis of opening fire on four people on a Decatur home's porch in September 2011. Mishyra was killed and three others were wounded.
