SPRINGFIELD - Secretary of State Police arrested several individuals who were protesting potential budget cuts at the state Capitol Monday.
The protesters, which included several disabled Illinois residents, were handcuffed and removed from the Capitol rotunda. One of the protesters, Mike Sentino, says he could lose access to home nursing care if the temporary income tax increase is not extended.
Governor Pat Quinn wants to make that increase permanent, but the House couldn't collect enough support to adopt a plan to fund a budget of about $37 billion. Lawmakers have begun work on a scaled-back state spending plan.
Police did not immediately return calls seeking comment and more details.
