Two injured in reported explosion at southwestern Illinois plant

EAST ALTON - Two people have been hospitalized after a reported explosion in a southwestern Illinois city Tuesday, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around noon at the Olin Brass casting site in East Alton.  The medical conditions of those injured during the fire were not immediately clear, and additional details about the fire were not immediately available.

Cory Douglas, a member of a subcontracting company hired to remove metal shavings from the plant, said that he hard a loud explosion, "like a gun going off."

Olin spokeswoman Ann Pipkin says the cause of the blast hasn't been determined.
