Legislator sponsors resolution to honor former state senator
SPRINGFIELD - A resolution is being pushed by an Illinois legislator that would name a highway in Springfield after a former state senator. Sponsored by Senator Sam McCann, the resolution would honor former state senator John "Doc" Davidson.
Davidson served the 50th District from 1973 to 1993, and one of his most notable accomplishments was working to ensure Southern Illinois University's School of Medicine would be located in Springfield. Davidson was born in Mississippi, and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a chiropractor by trade, and was also a member and past president of the Springfield Jaycees.
McCann says Davidson's impact "will be felt throughout central Illinois for generations to come."
