Chicago Cubs to leave WGN after nearly a century

CHICAGO - After 90 years, the Chicago Cubs are leaving the radio station they've called home for decades.

Media reports that the Cubs were leaving WGN after this season were confirmed on the air Wednesday by the station's president Jimmy de Castro.  The Cubs are expected to hold a news conference on Thursday at Wrigley Field to announce a broadcast deal with WBBM-AM 780.

De Castro says the decision was difficult for the station, which had been synonymous with the Cubs for close to a century, but adds the decision was made after the station determined that the deal the Cubs insisted on did not make economic sense for the station.
