Analysis shows Illinois has 22 fugitive escaped inmates
SPRINGFIELD - Prison data collected and analyzed by the Associated Press shows that nearly two dozen inmates who escaped from Illinois prisons or transition centers over the years have not been caught.
The analysis also found 11 inmates that have escaped were caught in the last two years, and that three died while on the loose.
The Illinois Department of Corrections says it never stops looking for fugitives or closes a case, and apprehension specialist Mike Harrington says he hunts escaped inmates by contacting family and trying to determine patterns and practices.
Most inmates listed as escaped fled from transition centers, known as "halfway houses", and not from prison lockups.
