U.S. senator wants more details on VA audit findings
CHICAGO - The Veterans Administration is being urged by U.S. Senator Mark Kirk to release more information about wait times and the quality of care at its Illinois hospitals.
Kirk says his office learned early Monday that following a VA audit, some Illinois facilities were flagged for further review. The hospitals in Hines and Marion, along with an outpatient clinic in Peoria, were among those flagged facilities.
Kirk says the outside reports he's received from whistle blowers at those facilities are backed up by the limited information he received on the audits. The audits come as a House committee is set to hold hearings Monday about the widening scandal.
Veterans could be provided with more flexibility in where they obtain health care thanks to new bipartisan legislation that's co-sponsored by Kirk, which would make several changes at the VA.
