Term limits legislation introduced by Illinois lawmaker
SPRINGFIELD - A proposal has been introduced by an Illinois lawmaker that would ask voters in 2015 if term limits should be imposed on leaders in the state Legislature.
On Monday, state Representative Jack Franks filed legislation that would put a non-binding question on the statewide municipal election ballot next April. Franks says the structure of state government needs to be overhauled.
Franks' plan is different from another proposal on term limits being pushed by gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner. Rauner's constitutional amendment effort would put term limits on all legislators, and would also shrink the size of the Legislature and give the governor more veto power.
