Control of Dwight Prison given to different state agency

PONTIAC - Control of the recently closed state prison near Dwight will be transferred from the Department of Corrections to a different state agency.

According to state Senator Jason Barickman, the Department of Central Management Services will take control of Dwight Correctional Center on July 1.

Once the Department of Central Management controls the property, it will be appraised before being offered to other state agencies and then other levels of local government.  There is a chance it could then be listed for sale to the general public.

In an effort to cut state costs, Dwight was closed last year.
