Illinois Secretary of State's office experiences computer outage
SPRINGFIELD - The main computer at the Illinois Secretary of State's office briefly stopped working Thursday, stopping transactions for about three hours.
According to department spokesman Henry Haupt, a failed power generator caused the problem, which affected transactions like car license renewals and corporate filings. Haupt says technicians worked to get the agency back online.
The mainframe computer connects the Springfield offices with dozens of driver's license facilities across Illinois. Although the local offices stayed open, employees couldn't perform any work that required use of the computer.
