Illinois community colleges promote electric vehicles with road trip
SPRINGFIELD - In an effort to promote electric vehicle charging stations, Illinois community colleges are participating in a three-day road trip.
Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon helped kick off the event at John A. Logan College in Carterville on Monday. The road trip will end about 370 miles away at College of Lake County in Grayslake on Wednesday.
The Illinois Green Economy Network organized the road trip with the goal of demonstrating how community colleges have helped strengthen the state's vehicle infrastructure and to challenge more Illinois employers to offer charging stations for their workers. Organizers say the trip will also show prospective drivers that they can travel long distances in electric vehicles.
Students and staff with drive the car, and it will make stops at community colleges that have electric vehicle charging stations.
