New Chief Medical Officer announced for St. Mary's Hospital

 DECATUR - St. Mary's Hospital announced the appointment of Phillip D. Barnell, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer on Tuesday.

As Chief Medical Officer, Barnell is charged with essential responsibilities which ensure the highest level of patient care and clinical standards.  As part of his new role, Barnell serves as lead advocate for all levels of medical staff.

Barnell served as an Emergency Physician, EMS Medical Director, and Chair Department of Emergency Services at St. Mary's Hospital.  He also served as a Predoctoral Coordinator at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana.

Barnell is board certified in family medicine, emergency medicine, and sports medicine, and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Medicine, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Association of Physician Specialists, and the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians.
