Gifford holds celebration 7 months after tornado

GIFFORD - Every June a community celebration is held in the eastern Illinois town of Gifford, and this year's celebration will be a little more special than usual.

The Gifford Community Celebration is one more small sign that things are returning to normal following last November's tornado, which destroyed about 70 homes and badly damaged another 40 in the town of 970.

The celebration will include a 5k run, food, entertainment, and other activities.  The event is being coordinated by Kelly Carter, who said there are more sponsors this year than ever, and that none of them hesitated.

Carter also said some people wondered if the event would take place this year, and that this year's celebration is more important than any in the past.
