SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency will seek enforcement action against a gas station that leaked fuel into sanitary sewers in Lisle, Illinois.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency received a report of the leak on Tuesday. The leak came from beneath a dispenser island at a Buchanan Energy-owned ExxonMobil gas station.
EPA officials want Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office to obtain an order requiring the company to clean up the contamination and control the release.
On Thursday, state officials said that an environmental contractor is pumping fuel from the sanitary sewer and a dispenser sump, and is flushing the storm and sanitary sewers with thousands of gallons of water to reduce vapors.
A spokesman for Buchanan Energy says the company is working with the station operator to resolve the problem.
