Highway in Peoria named after former U.S. transportation secretary

PEORIA - A stretch of highway in Peoria has been renamed after former U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

LaHood was a driving force behind a $500 million multi-year upgrade for the section of Interstate 74 that runs through downtown Peoria.

However, during a ceremony on Wednesday LaHood insisted the honor shouldn't go to him alone, but to all of those who worked on the project.  He also boasted of the road's quality, saying, "You don't see many potholes ... even after a brutal winter."

Among those in attendance was Governor Pat Quinn.
