Future of prison in Dwight still uncertain

DWIGHT - After closing one year ago, the future of the former Dwight Correctional Center still remains uncertain.

In 2013, the facility was shuttered as a cost-cutting measure, and last week Illinois' Central Management Services took over control of the facility.  CMS is expected to conduct an appraisal of the property, and if no state agencies are interested in taking it over, a private party could buy the facility.

Dwight village administrator Kevin McNamara says all utilities have been shut off and it would take "a lot of money" to get the property back into working order.  He also says most of the people who worked at the prison have found new jobs, but Dwight is still feeling the loss of sales tax revenue.
