Resolution honoring Alan Dixon passed by U.S. Senate
SPRINGFIELD - A resolution honoring the late U.S. Senator Alan Dixon has been approved by the U.S. Senate.
Dixon passed away Sunday at his home in Fairview Heights. He was 86. The Senate passed the resolution on Monday. U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk introduced it.
Dixon was an Illinois Democrat, and his career in state and national politics spanned over 40 consecutive years in public office. He was in the U.S. Senate from 1981 until 1993, and served as the third-ranking democrat and chaired a subcommittee of the Armed Services Committee.
