NIU forms group to improve sexual assault policies

DEKALB - A task force has been formed at Northern Illinois University to help implement White House recommendations on sexual assault prevention.

On Wednesday Doug Baker, Northern Illinois University President, announced the creation of the 20-member group.  The group met for the first time this week, and will continue to do so regularly over the next three months.  In October their recommendations for improving the university's sexual assault policies will be due.

Baker says the university wants to be proactive, and that the decision to form the task force came after a White House report looked into complaints about how some universities treated campus sexual assault victims.

According to university data, NIU's DeKalb campus had 11 reports of forcible sexual assaults in 2012,up from six in 2011.
