Chicago woman unfit for trial in baby's death

CHICAGO - A suburban Chicago woman is mentally unfit to stand trial for the death of her six-month-old granddaughter, according to a ruling made by a Cook County judge.

On Monday, Judge Clayton Crane ruled that Alfreda Giedrojc, 62, was mentally unfit to stand trial for the gruesome death of her baby granddaughter. Giedrojc is charged with first-degree murder.

Giedrojc will remain in jail, and must be re-evaluated after one year.   Her treatment schedule will be announced by the judge at an August 28 hearing.
