Quincy residents quadruple flag fundraiser goal

QUINCY - In under a week, residents of the western Illinois community of Quincy quadrupled a fundraising goal that will replace several dozen U.S. flags in the city's business district.

The goal for replacing the 70 flags was $1,500, but donations quickly topped $6,000.  Notable donations included $1,500 from the Quincy Tea Party and $1,500 from family members of the late Col. Kenneth G. Swan.

Travis Brown, executive director of The District, says the fundraiser began on July 9, and due to the surplus of money the effort generated that the group will likely be able to add flags and won't have to buy more for at least 5 years.
