Illinois unemployment rate decreases for fourth straight month
CHICAGO - According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the state's unemployment rate dropped for the fourth straight month, to 7.1 percent in June.
Illinois' unemployment rate remains higher than most other states, but has fallen almost a full percentage point in the past two months.
On Thursday, the department released their monthly employment report, pointing out that 3,500 construction jobs have been added across the state last month. However, Illinois lost about 1,500 manufacturing jobs in June. In all, the state added 6,000 jobs for the month.
Earlier this month, the federal government said the national unemployment rate fell to 6.1 percent in June.
