Construction job training program announced by Quinn
CHICAGO - A new training program to prepare people for construction jobs has been announced by Governor Pat Quinn.
The announcement for the Employ Illinois program was made at Dawson Technical Institute in Chicago on Thursday. That program is being offered through the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Tollway, and Quinn says it links job seekers with training. The program pays $15 an hour to contractors for every program graduate put to work.
Projects like the Circle Interchange in Chicago and on Roosevelt Road in Broadview will use the program.
The announcement follows news that Illinois' unemployment rate has dropped for the fourth consecutive month, to 7.1 percent.
