University of Illinois psychiatric clinic closing this fall

ROCKFORD - The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford will close its psychiatric clinic this fall.  Officials say they began notifying patients last month.

Cynthia Hall, College of Medicine spokeswoman, says the clinic has struggled financially in recent years, and that a continuing decrease in state funding was one of the reasons for the closure.

Hall also says the clinic had limited teaching opportunities, and the university felt it was best to redirect resources.

The clinic has been open for more than 20 years, and serves about 2,000 patients.
