DeWitt County Sheriff's Office looking for tips in Wapella theft
WAPELLA - The DeWitt County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in identifying thieves that stole over $1,000 from a Wapella woman on July 20.
According to authorities, the victim reported that one of the suspects knocked on her door and told her that he had concrete left over from a nearby job and offered to fix the victim's concrete sidewalk. The suspect demanded cash payment up front, and the victim gave him $400 in cash. After taking the cash, the suspect diverted her attention while another suspect entered her home a stole more cash. The suspects left without completing any work.
Eyewitnesses say the suspects were driving in a black Dodge truck. There were three white males between the ages of 30 and 40 in the truck, along with a boy under the age of 10. The suspects would have been parked along Route 51 in Wapella at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. The DeWitt County Sheriff's Office is looking for tips to help identify these suspects.
