Consolidation of Regional Offices of Education not easy
SPRINGFIELD - According to Illinois state education officials, the details of coming mergers of Regional Offices of Education around the state are still being worked on.
Last fall the Illinois State Board of Education approved a new map that would cut the number of regional offices from 44 down to 35. The offices must consolidate by June 30, 2015. Regional superintendents have met a few times since then to set up a basic timeline and discuss how to proceed. However, some areas are transitioning more smoothly than others.
Regional offices of education oversee a number of districts in various regions. Some of the duties carried out by the offices include handling school bus inspections, bus driver training, and professional development for teachers.
