PEORIA - A former Baptist missionary has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife on Valentine's Day last year.
Nathan Leuthold, 39, was accused of shooting his wife in their Peoria home so that he could pursue an affair with a 21-year-old Lithuanian woman, who was sponsored by the Leutholds to study in the U.S.
Leuthold's attorney argued that someone broke into the house, that there was no proof that Leuthold and the Lithuanian woman were having an affair, and that prosecutors didn't prove their case against Leuthold.
The jury deliberated for about 90 minutes before returning the guilty verdict. Leuthold will be sentenced September 10, and faces between 45 years and life in prison.
