Rule changes announced for 2014-2015 deer season

SPRINGFIELD - A number of changes for the upcoming deer hunting season has been announced by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

According to Marc Miller, director at the department, 20 counties will be removed from the late-winter season and the number of firearm permits available in some counties will be reduced.  Miller also says that the changes reflect the department's commitment to managing the state's deer population "to provide recreational opportunity while being mindful of public safety and the rights of property owners."

The changes follow recommendations from department biologists, who reviewed deer hunting harvest numbers, deer-vehicle accident data, surveyed Illinois deer hunters, and looked at disease reports.
